Admissions

Progress School – Referrals

Parents and local authority staff are welcome to visit the school prior to any formal referral being made, during the referral process and at any time during the placement.  Appointments can be made by ringing the school.

We have a policy on admissions to the school – please see school policies.

Referral of a Young Adult

A full assessment is undertaken on each person wishing to join the service. This involves liaison and information gathering with key people.

Young people new to the service are only admitted on the basis of a full assessment being undertaken and involving the young person wherever possible using appropriate communication methods. This is to ensure that accurate planning can be undertaken to meet individual needs.

When a placement has been offered based on the adult’s suitability within the service, a transition plan will be drawn up. Key people will spend time building up a relationship and where possible a visit and overnight stay will be planned.

Referrals are taken from a wide range of sources, including placing authorities who have used Progress School and those who are coming to adult services from other providers.

Parents and families are asked what their expectations of the placement are. A place in the home will only be offered if it can meet their needs and aspirations.

Progress Adult Services Limited aim to ensure that all transitions are made with as little upheaval and in a way that minimises anxiety.

For external assessment independent Psychological Services are used to assist in the assessment process.
