Progress School is an independent residential special school. We provide a 52-week service to young people aged 7 to 19 whose severe learning difficulties are compounded by extreme challenging behaviour. In addition, most pupils have significant communication impairments together with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
Our pupils live in small groups in high quality housing in the community south of Preston. High staffing ratios are maintained to meet the complex needs of the pupils within this service model. Pupils attend our day school and access community facilities as part of their regular timetable, with additional activities enriching the school day as part of our residential curriculum.
The multi disciplinary service provides coherent, consistent and continuous programmes of education, behavioural support, communication therapy and care.
Each children's home is supported by a team of Residential Educators led by a Registered Manager. Staffing ratios are maintained at a minimum of 1:1 throughout the waking day, and enhanced according to individual needs and types of activity as necessary. The same team of staff supports pupils throughout the day and night on a flexible working pattern to ensure consistency and continuity.
Our team of 120+ Residential Educators is the largest in the Company. Supported, guided and trained by a group of highly experienced professionals, we recruit staff with a wide range of life and work experiences, which contributes to the effectiveness of our service. Experience in residential care work or special education is an advantage, but more importantly, an understanding of the service we aim to provide, the needs of the young people we work with, and a commitment to quality are essential attributes.
